Through the Sacred Heart Exchange
Program, Upper School students may spend from
two-to-twelve weeks at another Sacred Heart School
in the United States or abroad. Exchange students
live with host families or in the host School’s
boarding facilities. This program offers our students
a unique opportunity to broaden their global awareness—academically,
socially and culturally—while experiencing
a new level of independence within a secure environment.
Students have recently traveled to Sacred Heart
Schools within the United States and to England,
Australia, France, Spain, Ireland and Scotland.
Convent of the Sacred Heart and its families also
host students participating in the Exchange Program,
enabling all members of our community to learn
from this unique educational opportunity and to
appreciate their own homes from a new perspective.
“I went on an exchange to
Melbourne, Australia, for six weeks. While there,
I attended school at Sacré-Coeur. During
my stay, I lived with a host family, the Magees.
They were such wonderful people and over time,
I felt like I became a part of their family
and they became a part of mine. Also, the girl
that I was staying with, Erin, was fantastic!
We got along so well and I would most certainly
consider her another one of my sisters. Together
we did tons of things throughout Melbourne.
We did all of the classic tourist areas, like
zoos, historical villages, a historical goldmine
and, of course, the best strips of shopping
around. We also spent a week in Sydney where
we toured the Sydney Opera House, visited the
Sydney Aquarium and the beautiful Blue Mountains.
We also simply enjoyed common things, like going
to the mall or the movies. But I don’t
think that I could even say these things were
simple because nothing about my trip to Australia
was simple or plain; every moment of it was
overwhelming and phenomenal.”

“I needed a change in surroundings though
I love the Sacred Heart Community, so exchange
was the perfect solution. I chose England because
I love London and the European culture. It was
a great opportunity for me to make tons of new
friends that I know I will keep. Woldingham,
which was a boarding school, was a really fun
change for me. Being so close to London really
allowed me to get to know the city.
