| Upper School
The Upper School challenges
each student to take greater responsibility for
her own learning within a supportive environment.
The academic program at Sacred Heart is rigorous
and flexible. Serious study is emphasized and
students are encouraged to develop the essential
academic skills necessary for success in college
and life.
College Preparatory, Honors and Advanced Placement
courses are offered throughout the core curriculum,
which includes mathematics, science, English,
history, social sciences, foreign languages, religion
and the arts. Students are afforded opportunities
to explore their own talents and interests through
special projects, study abroad, summer programs
and independent study. Individual courses of study
are developed for each student with the support
of her academic advisor, the Academic Dean and
the Head of Upper School.
Details of all courses offered are available in
the Upper School
Curriculum Guide.

Science
Research Program
This three-year program offers
students in the Upper School the opportunity to
conduct high-level scientific research and scholarship
as part of their academic experience. Attracting
diverse young women, all of whom share a passion
for science, participants develop invaluable research
and analytical skills.
Once they have chosen a specific topic in their
sophomore year, students engage in original research,
supervised by a scientist mentor and their classroom
teacher. Ultimately, findings are presented in
classroom forums as well as at regional and statewide
symposia, and at national competitions such as
the Intel Competition.
Honors and Advanced
Placement Courses
Each year in the Upper School,
we offer a wide range of Honors courses to highly
motivated students who have demonstrated an aptitude
for the most demanding academic work. Advanced
Placement courses offer students a similar challenge,
as well as the opportunity to earn credit for
foundation-level courses at the college or university
to which they ultimately matriculate.
