| A Day in the Life: Lower
School
Overview
Promoting the growth of each child’s sense
of herself as a unique individual and as a valued
member of the community is the primary goal of
the Lower School program. To achieve this goal,
the Lower School faculty focuses on all aspects
of each child’s development: intellectual,
spiritual, social, emotional and physical. This
approach to education fosters the development
of a student who is open to learning and the joy
of life, who is sensitive to the world around
her and who is appreciative of her own unique
gifts and the gifts of others.
The Lower School academic program includes Language
Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Religion, Library,
Dance,
Music, Physical Education and Art. The World Language Program introduces students to French, Spanish or Chinese in kindergarten. Students also
receive instruction in technology.
An array of after-school activities—including
sports, crafts workshops and swimming—enhance
the regular academic program.
Lower School students are also active participants
in many age-appropriate community
service projects, such as Jump Rope for Uganda,
which helps raise money for our sister school in
Uganda.
