| A Day in the Life: Middle
School
Overview
As a student progresses through the Middle School,
she is challenged to develop to her fullest potential
spiritually, intellectually, and personally. The
Middle School emphasizes serious study, education
for social responsibility, and the development
of a strong faith. Individual and classroom instruction,
demonstration, group problem solving, projects
and field trips foster growth in knowledge and
skills and the attitude of learning as a lifetime
process.
Language arts, mathematics, science, social studies,
religious education and foreign languages comprise
the core Middle School curriculum. In addition,
courses in Studio Art, Art History, Music, Drama,
Dance,
Computer, Physical Education and Library skills
are vital components of the program. Teachers
encourage students to take risks, experience success
and view disappointments as a vehicle for future
growth.
Community service
in the Middle School is organized around grade-level
themes and the girls typically participate with
their advisory groups. Volunteering in our Lower
School, visiting a nursing home or hospital and
working in an aquatic therapy program are some
of the projects Middle School students do.
Beginning in Grade 6, the girls may also participate
in interscholastic sports and the Middle School
girls may choose from field hockey, soccer, basketball,
swimming, lacrosse and softball. Teams are divided
by skill level and efforts are made to give every
girl an opportunity to play the sport of her choice.
