Community Food Pantry:
The Community Food Pantry at St. Mary’s Parish in Mohegan Lake, NY is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide emergency and supplemental food to families and individuals who live in the Yorktown-Cortlandt area.
Heartsong, Inc. provides clinically-based music and art therapy programs for children who have been diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, developmental delays, and other disabilities. The Art and Music Therapy for Special Needs Children is a program that corresponds to the Barat Foundation mission of helping children.
Reverse the Course:
Reverse the Course is an organization founded by Sacred Heart Greenwich eighth-grade student Mary Grace Henry. Ms. Henry creates and sells her handmade headbands and uses the funds to finance tuition for girls in Uganda and other underdeveloped countries.
Petit Family Foundation:
The Petit Family Foundation was founded by Dr. William Petit, and was created to honor the memory of his wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, and his two daughters, Hayley Elizabeth Petit and Michaela Rose Petit. The Petit Foundation’s mission is to continue the kindness, idealism and activism that defined these women’s lives, which includes contributing funds to help educate young people.
Real Hope for Haiti:
The Real Hope for Haiti Rescue Center, located in Cazale, Haiti is dedicated to supporting children who are chronically malnourished and in need of 24-hour care. At the center, the children are nourished until they maintain proper weight and, if possible, reunited with their families. The center recently opened at tent to provide for children who need intensive care.
New Covenant House for Hospitality:
New Covenant House of Hospitality is a Stamford, CT-based organization that provides food through a soup kitchen, food pantry and an after-school meals program for the children of underprivileged, working families. The meals program extends beyond when school ends in June, and continues through a summer program until August.
The Child Abuse Prevention Center:
The Child Abuse Prevention Center of New York is a non-profit organization that works to reduce child abuse and neglect in Westchester County. The organization operates a Teen Parenting program that provides young parents with the aid and support necessary to raise happy and healthy children while becoming productive members of society.
Duke Excite Development:
Duke Excite Development is a Duke University program that allows students the opportunity to assist underprivileged adults and children. One of our past members, former Barat vice president Ale Ferrara, is a part of a specific Duke Excite chapter, called Duke Engineers Without Borders, which is spearheading a project to build a pedestrian bridge in El Salvador. This bridge will provide access for children and their parents to schools, markets and emergency medical care.
Feed My Starving Children:
Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a Christian non-profit hunger relief organization that works to address the needs of children suffering from hunger by providing them with nourishing meals. This year, we participated in a mobile food packing event for FMSC in Darien, CT because FMSC is also a past grant recipient from Barat. Several Barat members helped package thousands of meals for children in Haiti, and it was a truly rewarding experience.
WestCOP Mt. Kisco Head Start:
WestCOP Mt. Kisco Head Start is a private non-profit agency that provides various social services to families in Westchester and Putnam Counties. Mt. Kisco also runs a program called “Enriching Children’s Lives through Real Life Experience,” which funds field trips for children. These trips introduce children to new ideas and topics.
