Writopia Lab, in partnership with the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and Manhattanville College, recently announced the 2019 Scholastic Writing Awards for the Hudson to Housatonic Writing Region.
This year, Writopia Lab honored 49 Sacred Heart Greenwich writers with gold, silver and honorable mention awards. A total of 36 Middle School writers received 48 awards and 13 Upper School writers received 15 awards.
This year, Gold Keys were awarded to eighth graders Nailah Archer, Nadia Borja, Kasey Calacci, Audrey Ebeling, Sia Goyal, Elsa Latrille, Laura O’Connor (2), Josephine Orr, Gabi Pye, Alessandra Serbaroli; as well as Michala Rogers ’21, and Malika Amoruso ’20. Additionally, Orr received The Village Bookstore of Pleasantville, NY 2019 Prize, given to students who demonstrated exemplary skill and promise in their writing abilities.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7 through 12. Former honorees include Truman Capote, Sylvia Plath, and Joyce Carol Oates.
Writopia Lab is a national nonprofit focused on fostering joy, literacy, and critical thinking through creative writing. Among their 18 sites nationwide, they have four labs across Fairfield, Westchester, and Rockland counties. This is Writopia Lab’s seventh year of administering the Awards for the Hudson-to-Housatonic Writing Region.
