NBC sportscaster Bruce Beck inspires broadcast students
NBC sportscaster Bruce Beck spoke to students in the Intro to Filmmaking class on April 17. Mr. Beck is the lead sports anchor at WNBC-TV, and he has been in the media business for more than 40 years.
Mr. Beck shared three keys to success:
1. attention to detail 2. preparation 3. relationships: make connections with people
He modeled for the students how to read sports and news copy. He taught the students to "go loud or go soft" and to "perform" the words rather than just reading them. He shared the importance of inflections and pauses in reporting.
Four students had the opportunity to read copy and be critiqued by Mr. Beck.
