Where young women become global leaders

Don Bosco Community Center honors Six Upper School students

The Don Bosco Community Center in Port Chester, New York, recently honored six Sacred Heart Greenwich students with the Don Bosco Youth Service Award at the annual Don Bosco Dreams benefit dinner. The organization recognized Upper School students Adriana Arias ’19, Cameron Calcano ’20, Shantel Guzman ’19, Gigi Jervis ’19, Nicole Mellert ’20 and Julia Welsh ’20 for their participation in and commitment to the Don Bosco’s Early Childhood Bilingual Program. Representatives from Don Bosco and Senator Scott Frantz were on hand to present the students with official citations on behalf of the State of Connecticut.
The goal of the Early Childhood Bilingual Program is to help three to four-year-old Hispanic children develop reading and writing skills in both English and Spanish. For the Sacred Heart Greenwich students, working with the program provides global leadership opportunities. The students gain the opportunity to give back to the local community, make an impact on young learners and put their foreign language skills to use.
