Student Use of Media Center
This guide will help you make good use of our facilities and hopefully enhance your studies.
It presents the policies and procedures you are expected to follow, as well as the resources and services available.

The Library Media Center is open from 7:30 AM until 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, unless otherwise announced.
The Library Media Center is available to all students for study, research, planning etc. before classes, lunchtime, free periods and/or after school.
Since the LMC serves many purposes and is often a busy place, it is important to remember that behavior in the library should be considerate, quiet and meaningful. No loud, boisterous conduct should take place.
Effective use of our resources in this center requires cooperation from everyone. Inappropriate conduct may result in your being asked to return to Study Hall or the Core Center
Simple Rules of Etiquette:
- Use a quiet voice
- Come with a purpose
- Check materials out before leaving the LMC
- No gum or food in the LMC
Loan Periods for materials:
Books – two weeks (Students may renew books by email or in person for an additional two weeks)
Reference books –overnight (with Librarian’s permission)
Magazines (Paper edition) – Current issue for use only in the Library Media Center, unless special permission is given. Back issues may be signed out for one week -- N.B. Many of our magazines are available online
Videos – overnight
Reserve Materials – For use in the Library Media Center for class use. May only be taken out with special permission for a limited time ALL BORROWED MATERIALS MUST BE CHECKED OUT BY THE LIBRARIAN OR LIBRARY ASSISTANT BEFORE LEAVING THE LIBRARY
When necessary the librarian reserves the right to alter the loan period when materials are needed for special class assignments. Overnight materials are due back early the next morning. Failure to adhere to this policy may result in the suspension of privileges for overnight loans.
Students may be required to reimburse the school for materials lost or damaged. CSH Online Catalog
The library maintains an online catalog of its collection, which may be accessed in school and from home at http://destiny.cshgreenwich.org/
.How to find materials
All print books, Ebooks, and DVDs may be searched in the online catalog by title, author and/or subject in school or from home.
Books are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal System and may be found either in the regular collection, or in the library study room reference collection.
All DVDs for grades 7-12 are shelved in the Media Center’s upstairs study room, just inside the main entrance. Those for grades K-6 are located in the lower section of the library. Please see a librarian for assistance.
Please do not hesitate to ask for help if you have problems locating materials. Reference Collection
A small reference collection of encyclopedias, dictionaries and yearbooks can be found in the upstairs study room and on a large shelf just outside the technology office. Most reference books have been interfiled within the regular book collection. Please see a librarian if you need help locating materials.Periodicals
The LMC maintains print subscriptions to a limited number of periodicals, including the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. For access to our online periodical databases, please go to the Online Subscription Databases page
and log into the Intranet for full access.When in doubt about locating information, please do not hesitate to request assistance from the librarians.
