Upper School Mock Trial team has strong showing at Civics First competition
Fourteen Upper School students participated in the Civics First competition at the Stamford, CT Courthouse on November 30th with the Mock Trial team. In the morning, the plaintiff’s team of Sacred Heart students-lawyers battled Westhill High School, and the in the afternoon, the defense team of student-lawyers battled Lauralton Hall.
Participating in this year’s lineup of lawyers were: Zoe Bucci ’20, Grace Flanagan ’19, Mary Anne Gallagher ’19, Claire Liddy ’19, Lily Santangelo ’21, and Anna Snopkowski ’19. The student-lawyers raised many good points and put forth relevant objections. Participating on the witness stand and fighting off tough questions from the opposing counselors were Delaney Coleman ’21, Piper Gilbert ’21, Annabelle Hartch ’21, Abby Knight ’19, Eloise Moulton ’21, and Emily Newton ’20. Additionally, Emma Rose Connolly ’21 and Morgan Felletter ’21 participated as timekeepers.
Despite not advancing to the next round, the Mock Trial team leader and Upper School history teacher Matt Meyer was encouraged by the progress made by the team during the event. The team was also supported by alumna and practicing criminal prosecutor Ms. Hilary Chernin ‘99.
